about

Norwegian pop rockers Pogo Pops are back with their 7th album ‘Love Is The Greatest Compass’, set for release on 2nd June, via Apollon Records.

‘Love is The Greatest Compass’ is actually the band’s first major international release and celebrates their 30th anniversary of writing pure pop tunes. Lead track ‘Architect’, already a small hit in Norway,is the perfect entry point for those new to the band, musically and lyrically reflecting on the heady heydays of 90’s indie pop. ‘The Blue Beyond’, ‘The Way It Goes’ and ‘This Is The Night’ offer the more upbeat shades of Suede or The Beatles, while the punchier, soulful title track curls itself around tight beats & bass in something akin to Style Council or The Jam. The easygoing hooks and blissful summer harmonies throughout are delightful sounds of a band comfortable in their own skin.

Pogo Pops are often considered the band that defined the Bergen Wave, followed by artists such as
Kings Of Convenience & Røyksopp.  Led by main songwriter and bass player Frank Hammersland, the band released four albums in the 1990s, with their second ‘Crash’ winning the Spellemanprisen (the Norwegian equivalent to a Grammy) in 1993.  Following this success, the band toured throughout Scandinavia and Japan where their reputation as the perfect pop band really crystallised. Pogo Pops separated in 1996 to pursue solo projects, but the calling was strong and the band reunited 10 yearslater for a series of concerts and a compilation album, followed by two new albums in 2009 and 2012.
